This is an update. It appears some helpful folks in our information technology group upgraded our software without an okay from me. They also did not check settings to ensure the appropriate moderation was in place, which is contrary to our policy. The result was an open distribution list from about 5:00 am Friday morning until about 3:00 pm Mountain Standard Time Friday afternoon, but it was only open to subscribers. Since I am a list subscriber and did see the traffic that got through, the only postings that were released were from list subscribers. They did not have the list header and posters were confused by what was happening with the list, as was I. We stopped all outgoing messages on Friday and I requested we go back to our old software for the time being.
Our old system is working as of today. The reason I am waiting to make a jump to new software is the list website and archives are driven by this software. I would like to preserve the archives as a searchable resource and I also want to make sure the website is maintained for subscriber access to subscriptions. I also want to make sure the settings are correct.
If you posted between 3:00 pm Friday and 11:00 am today, your posting was likely lost. Please repost. I will clear today.
I believe we are good for the moment. I will inform all subscribers before we make any changes and make sure the changes are seamless. Ideally, you will not even know. Unfortunately, the implementation Friday was not seamless. In the finest tradition of "what can go wrong will," it also was graduation day and I had dozens of events taking place while trying to run back and forth with our IT people to get this straightened out once I knew what was going on. They did get right on it and we seem to be running again.
