Before I found out about Ai, I learned a very effective way to use pictures
to aid development. You ask people to draw a picture, just stick people and
lines are fine, of how things are now. Then people describe what is going on
in the picture with a very short phrase. You do the same for how you would
like things to be in the future again describing the picture with a phrase
and then find a phrase to describe how to get from "now" to the "future".
Then you use this phrase to decide what to do in practice.
This works really well. One CEO client of mine used it for his own
development. When I saw him again, I was impressed that he had used the same
process with all his key managers, in groups, and discovered they all wanted
the same things as him.
I think you could easily adapt this to Ai work with illiterate people, as
people would be interested in sharing the stories and thinking behind the
pictures and hearing other people's. It's also fascinating to see other
people's pictures and to work out what they have in common. I learned this
from Chris Bull, who gave me a lot. There is more information here
