Hi Cheri
Thank you for this update and information about the Zeitgeist project.
Some time ago, I watched the DVD "Future By Design" and was very much
inspired by it - both the ideas it contained, and the passion and
lifelong commitment of Jaque Fresco himself.
At the time I bookmarked websites related to his work, including the
Venus Project. But, as so often is the case with websites we collect I
guess, it has languished in a long list of sites I've not revisited for
some time! :-) The Zeitgeist project is a new addition, so I'm delighted
to have the 'heads up' from you to revisit the Venus Project.
The goals of the Zeitgeist movement are positive indeed. And, while I
have as yet only read the "Activist Orientation Guide" (the pdf you
attached) quickly (I'll go back to it and read it with more attention
later) it does indeed highlight an 'incredible pathway forward' that
carries our thinking way outside current reality to envisage a world
where "abundance, joy, peace and enough for everone" are the norm.
I do admit to a few "wriggly moments" when I read the book though ...
where the language used used just didn't quite resonate for me. :-)
One small example .. under "Tips for Spreading Awareness" (p 82) the
last two dot points were:
-Continually expose the corruption of our current system, publicly.
-Contact existing "activism" groups, such as the ACLU and Greenpeace,
and try to explain to them how their efforts, while very noble, are not
going to solve any of the major social problems, for they are not
addressing root causes.
There were also several other spots where the language used rang bells
of negativity for me - hence the 'wriggle-effect'. Even the word
"Acitivist" in the book's title contains negative connotations for me.
It so often implies 'doing battle' and fighting *against' something,
rather than what I believe is the spirit of AI - ie bringing all voices
into the room and finding the 'higher ground' beyond conflicting interests.
However I'm very happy to be corrected on these assumptions, which may
be entirely off beam and a reflection of my own biases ... anyone? :-)
Apart from this 'wriggle effect' I am very much in support of what the
Venus and Zeitgeist projects are aiming to achieve, and the new way of
thinking they espouse, if we are to co-create a better world for all.
Warmly
Sue
