A quick report, link and highlights from the two appreciative inquiry
workshops we did Saturday and Monday night with board members,
parents, students and the archetech working to build the new Elko,
Nevada Charter School.

Report of outcomes: http://www.elkocharterschool.com/news.html

Two highlights from the meetings:

1) Working with young students age 4-11 to design their new school
building, WOW!

The AI interview question which I did in a circle with there parents
was: Which room in your house makes you feel most comfortable to be
you? Describe the room, what you do there and what you value about
that room.

2) Having the archetech share she was scared of this type of process
prior to the meeting since they had funding restraints were unsure how
much input could be incorporated in the design. Then thanking me for
the positive outcome, inclusion and input. She would do this again
and when it came to the requests and offers, she offered to teach the
students at the new school archetecture.

A glimpse of support generated:

By the close of the 2nd session, the school had offers of over $1,000
in donations, skilled labor, sewing and other needed requests.

Thank you all, and to the AI list for on-going support to do this
fabulous work.

Sincerely,
Julie Caldwell
