Dear All--
I'm wondering if anyone in the community has been involved with a summit in which captioning, and other non ASL (American Sign Language) technologies were used for and by deaf or hard of hearing participants? It'd be a great help to know about:
1. What worked especially well for you as a facilitator or participant?
2. What design factors (summit design) allowed for maximum engagement and participation, given diverse communication modalities?
3. What timing adjustments, if any, did you make for (a) interviews? (b) small group work? (c) dream enactments?
4. What type of room set-up allowed for best visibility for all?
This will be a 2-day summit, so a quick pace. The summit purpose is related to equal access to seamless service delivery for DHH and deafblind children from birth to age six, and their families, so they may thrive in school and in life. Included will be a broad cross section of stakeholders from multiple public and private agencies, as well as families across a state. In addition to multiple DHH communication modalities, there will also be some language interpreters (Vietnamese and Spanish).
I've facilitated several meetings and a summit with ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters; however, this summit also will include captioning, and possibly other communication modalities.
Thanks!
