Howard,
I think there is more to the situation than this. The research does
indicate that what we focus on (thought and action) grows--whether it is
positive or negative or some combination. If the only thought and action
going on in an area is fear, anger, competition, dominance, and negativity,
then that is what grows. It is not that there is no thought or action
occurring in the Sudan, it is the nature of it. To shift what is happening,
sufficient thought and action to the contrary must occur.
Spiral Dynamics offers important information with regards to shifting the
thought and action in such areas. From the SDi perspective, it is not
enough just to have "positive thoughts and actions" but positive thoughts
and actions that align with the cultural value memes of those in an area.
