Hi Cindy
I have been training coaches from an appreciative perspective for the past 7
years.
There are a couple of things you need to consider:
What is your career-life goal: Coaching is an entirely non-regulated field so
technically you don't need any training. Your potential clients however may have
other ideas. The International Coach Federation is trying to position itself as
"the" coaching credential, however there is no requirement that you have their
blessing to do coaching, but some businesses are requiring their coaches to be
ICF accredited. It is now becoming very expensive to get that certificate as they
keep adding requirements and from what I have seen the quality of the training
programs varies extensively.
There is also a big difference between certificates and competence. do your
potential clients require you to have a specific credential or certificate? If not
then my advice is to ignore the certificate and go find the training that will grow
your competence in the perspective that you want to develop.
Through the Clergy Leadership Institute I offer a year-long certificate in
appreciative coaching, it is not ICF accredited. My focus is on what I call the
Appreciative Way, a synthesis of Appreciative Inquiry, the work of Milton
Erickson and his many students, and contemplative spirituality that can be found
in the Christian and Buddhist mystical traditions.

The web site also has articles on coaching including a quiz on the difference
between coaching and psychotherapy.
