Appreciative Inquiry and Strategic Planning come together  with an  
approach called SOAR. For Years I used SWOT  because that was the  
approach to strategy and planning that clients wanted.

Jackie Stavros and I  combined AI  and   SOAR (Strengths,  
Opportunities, Aspirations and Results) with great success at   
Northern Essex Community College in Massachusetts.  The excellent plan  
that resulted from their SOARing Summit is still very much alive,  
acted upon and affecting day to day and long term life at the college.

Jackie and Gina Hinrichs have written a thin book that  explains SOAR   
in a straight forward and accessible way. What a swell resource! You  
can find it as Thin Book of SOAR (and it is quite reasonably priced)

I read the advanced copy and highly recommend this  book and the SOAR  
process  for organizations  and individuals that want to take a deep  
dive  into  collective or personal strategy.
