Hi 

Kouzes and Posner' work on Leadership practices (LPI) was based on a huge 
appreciative inquiry into ordinary people doing extraordinary things in the field 
of leadership. Their original research was done long before Appreciative Inquiry 
was developed. Their questions though were classic AI. "Tell me your best 
experience of being a leader.." If you Google the LPI or Kouzes and Posner you 
will find many references to their work
