Hi Mike,
One of my enduring childhood heroes is Jacques Cousteau. For many reasons
but I think the values that he inspires most are an boundless capacity to be
fascinated by the world and a sense of responsibility even if one is not
certain about whether one is responsible for it or not. This latter point
for me resonates with respect to global warming. The argument about whether
it is man made or not is somewhat immaterial. There is no doubt that we can
respect the planet better and so we should.
I'm pleased to hear from Barrack Obama that message of individual
responsibility. Parents have to turn off the TV to help their kids
education, we can all make a difference to the environment by being more
responsible with our use of energy and make a difference to the economy by
being more responsible about our use of credit.
I read once that what the US lacked was the Statue of Responsibility on the
west coast to balance the Statue of Liberty on the East. That link between
liberty and responsibility is what should set this nation apart and I'm
pleased to hear it more obviously that I've heard it before.
Roger

Subject: [Ailist] President-elect Obama's Acceptance Speech - Music
To Andy Smith: "Titan Spiri" - Thats it- and hearing was a tears to eyes
moment for me - don't know why - it just was - the music for me captured the
idea that "we can hope again" - - and "unyielding hope" was the enduring
ideal that Obama ended with
To those who replied - I am most grateful and lets all just thank
ourselves that AI is here and so is this list.
And it brings a question to my mind, What is one of your enduring values,
ideals, or emotions - and is there anything that symbolizes it for you (such
as a particular scene from nature, a work of art or poetry, or, even, a
piece of music). What can you remember, when you want, that invokes that
feeling or ideal?
Those five music notes from Titan Spirit -- C E C(1) A G have just
entered my list.
Many thanks to you all
Mike
