[Ailist] Examining mental models

Hey Nick, thanks for the "transfer" post. Your "playing back" to your client
what they said reminds me of a Harvel Hendriex sp? process I learned years
ago for couples working on their relationship. There is some exact language
that I still use with clients from all walks of life. It inlcudes phrases
like "did I get that right" or " did I understand that part of what you
said" or "did I miss anything" which you say after listening intently and
empathetically and reciting what they said. It is respectful and increases
trust and builds a shared mental model. The process of trying to repeat what
the person says without getting too creative or synthesizing too much can be
really valuable.

thanks,

Ron Smith
