Hi Friends and those of you interested in an introductory class to graphic facilitation. I am hoping to hold a session on one of the weekends below. Please let me know as soon as possible whether you are interested, and in which dates.
DECONSTRUCTING GRAPHIC FACILITATION
Learning to facilitate using a shared visual workspace
March 15 & 16 or March 29 & 30, 2007
With a half day followup session in person or on-line in May
Sausalito or Walnut Creek, California
Deconstructing Graphic Facilitation is an introductory workshop that teaches the skills necessary to facilitate a group through the use of a shared visual workspace. By creating and refining a display that makes and holds a groups thinking visible as it does its work, graphic facilitators are able to help groups function more smoothly, more effectively and achieve results more quickly. Because of the central role that using a shared visual workspace plays, this workshop will focus on its use as a primary facilitation tool, fusing the traditional roles of facilitator and graphic recorder into one.
The course centers on the facilitative skill of listening, linking it to skills and methods of visual capture & display in increasing levels of complexity. I will also introduce the rationale for this way of working with groups, teach the logistics of set-up, of follow-through and explore contracting. The course should serve as a strong foundation for beginning to practice this way of working with groups, with participants ready after two days to begin to apply their skills. I will emphasize not only initial but continuing learning, with a half day follow-up session approximately three months after the initial workshop to share progress and set the stage for further learning.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone who helps groups work or learn together in a facilitative way facilitators, consultants, leaders, teachers and graphic recorders! Although this class centers on the skills of being able to facilitate through using graphics, rather than partnering with someone else to provide this skill, both facilitators and graphic recorders should find that this course helps them to get much more out of partnering with each other, both by increasing their understanding of the others role, as well as by introducing new tools and techniques.
