[Ailist] "Dialect coaching" (Amanda Trosten-Bloom)

Hi Amanda,
It could be something as basic (but not easily solved) as a pronunciation
coach because the accents or dialects of certain team members are difficult
to understand and that difficulty is increased when they are not meeting
face to face where you can give and get other cues that there is lack of
understanding. The global virtual teams that I work with usually have this
challenge, particularly if one cultural group does not have very high
exposure to others speaking English(or whatever language the team is using
as the common one) as their non-native tongue.

This does not in any way minimize the role that AI can play in
multi-cultural virtual team. A significant amount of my practice involves an
appreciative approach to increasing global team success by building cultural
bridges and international competencies so if you'd like to chat further I'd
be happy to discuss.

Hi,

Im going to be attending a party this weekend with people Im not
too familiar with, but I would like to get to know them better. What
Im looking for are short, but AI like questions to have people share
positive things about themselves and to start a conversation.

The icebreaker posting gave me some ideas, but I am looking for more
suggestions. Any suggestions?

Amanda,
I am not sure if this is a fit or not, but Yongming Tang, Ph.D. JFK
University in Beijing is doing work entitled "Synergistic Inquiry". When I
met him in San Francisco in January it sounded like a way that he was using
to bridge the dialect and cultural differences with companies from the US
that he is integrating into China. If you want more info give me a call.

Peace,

I have been working with a multicultural, global team that often
works virtually. In a recent event, someone asked me if I knew of
such a thing as a "dialect coach" - someone who could work with
people to overcome some of the challenges of multi-cultural
communication, in terms of both "sending" and "receiving"
communication. I am unfamiliar with such a service, and wondered if
any of you had knowledge or contacts that I don't.

Thanks in advance for helping me think this through.

Warmly,
