Hi, Zeb,
I led a team of instructional designers in a project for a client and
colleague from TRADOC's School of Cadet Command to redesign the Junior ROTC
course materials. This is a character-based education program with a strong
service learning component. AI is not explicitly a part of the program, but
emotional literacy is. I wrote the textbook chapter called Socrates: Know
Thyself, which included sections on brain structure and function
(fight-flight-freeze, memory, neural plasticity), self-awareness, empathy,
interpersonal skills, etc. One component of the program is Conover's
emotional intelligence instrument and multimedia learning modules. There are
other good components, such as Winning Colors - all strengths-based
development designed for young people. Lots on communication, conflict
resolution, leadership, goal setting, learning style, and so on. My
colleague, the SOCC JROTC Program Director, completed her PhD after we did
this curriculum redesign, using data from the emotional intelligence
assessments and correlating the results to academic success. I'm not sure
what the provisions might be, but she has a heart for disadvantaged
children, and the Conover Company's EI program includes not just the
instrument but a full multimedia development program. Perhaps there is a way
these educational assets could be shared with the rural communities of which
you speak. Please contact me at patti at coachthink.com if you want to discuss
further and - GOOD LUCK!
Happy Holidays,
Patti Millar

Dear forum members
I am working on developing a curriculum for Emotional Literacy in Schools
based on AI. I will be grateful to receive perspectives, ready materials,
references and work already done in this area. This is for a non-government
organisation running schools for rural poor children. As usual, I thank you
for your continued help.
Zeb
