Hi, everyone!  Today is the anniversary (if you can call it that) of  
the nuclear attack on Hiroshima. On this day in 1945, at the end of  
World War II, President Truman ordered the nuclear weapon ironically  
called "Little Boy" to be dropped on the city of Hiroshima, killing as  
many as 140,000 people.

It's an important day to remember in a field committed to conflict  
resolution, civility, and public engagement in decision-making.

At the end of the last day of our 2006 conference (the 3rd National  
Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation), also August 6th, a Japanese  
woman stood up and reminded us of the historical importance of this  
day, and also reminded us why we came together in the first place.  I

I invite you to also think about joining us at this year's NCDD  
conference, which is taking place October 3-5 in Austin, Texas. Our
