[Ailist] ScienceDaily: Reflecting On Values Promotes Love, Acceptance

I believe the idea of discussing values as a way to enriching life is extremely valid.

In Oct. 2004 the Vancouver Appreciative Inquiry Network had regular a monthly session with about 15 members and the subject (led by "LK") was values. I believe she first asked us, asw a goup, to name some values, then in pairs to consider times when our personal values served us, and then "without being humble" to consider what it was about each of us that made the instance as successful as it was.

The dialogue was productive and the story telling was transcendant - it was, for me at least, one of the two or three top meetings we have ever had.

And, by the way, it seems to me this is all a pretty good example of the Law of Attraction.

Thanks, Stephanie, for the subject.

Mike

No one enjoys being told that their behavior is harmful to themselves or others. In fact, most people respond defensively when confronted with evidence that their behavior is irrational, irresponsible, or unhealthy. Fortunately, research has shown that just a few minutes of writing about an important value can reduce defensiveness.
