Hi Lora

>From the an appreciative perspective grief is the inability to imagine a tomorrow
that you would prefer to live in. The stages of grief you suggest people go thru
only occur if people cannot imagine an enjoyable tomorrow. To create hope, the
alternative to grief, we need simply help the person imagine a tomorrow they
can look forward to.

The best way to create an enjoyable tomorrow is to ask what makes today or
what made yesterday enjoyable. When did the person feel really alive? Go
beyond the temporal going to work type of responses to the underlying value,
such as connecting with people, making a difference in the world etc. You may
have to ask that question several times to get at the deeper value. That deeper
value will in most cases be related to the person's core purpose. In order to
have a fulfilling retirement people still need to manifest that core purpose. The
way of doing it may need to be different but the essential purpose and value will
be there.
