Hi David,
I don't know how direct a response this is to your question, but for what it's worth I have a response. Whenever I start getting into a competitive mindset I remind myself:
"Soul's purpose, not competition."
It's a favourite phrase for me meaning that if t my soul's purpose to achieve or be involved in something then it will happen regardless of any apparent obstacles. If we are all pieces of the divine then, to put it bluntly, how can God compete with God? So I get to wondering what your company's soul purpose is and whether that is a worthy Inquiry to introduce. That might be a stretch though.
To be slightly less absrtact/ broad than this, what if you were to acknowledge that this move has been made by another company, and ask for the people there to think not in terms of a strategic response (any action born out of adversarial response will struggle to birth a positive inquiry) but look at it as if this other company is a valued training partner. How are they inspiring you to greater heights? Our own vision is limited, but when we can work together with others and spark our own insight from the light of their vision then we have the potential to achieve things we literally never even dreamed of. So, taking inspiration from this great thing they've done, what do we want to do?
What is your best experience of seeing someone excell and feeling inspired to be all that you can be?
Hope this helps and that you find a way that'll work for your people,
Have fun!
