I think people are missing the point of this phrase ... Re: [Ailist] Fake it till ya make it

For an instance think fo the word "fake" as being something other than a
lie - perhaps a call for creativity or dreaming.

What attracted me to AI in the first place was when I read it is based
on social constructionism - the social construction of reality. For
several years previously, I had been working with positioning theory -
the discursive production of selves - and, as I read more about AI it
seemed to me that AI and positioning theory were closely related and
mutually supportive.

In this thread, it seems to me that the problem is with the term "fake
it", because that implies a lie, which is something outside AI. Indeed,
lieing is not something that would seem to fit within AI. Perhaps a
more approrpiate term is "affirmation" from the popular self development
cults (tell yourself that you will have what you envision).

In positioning theory it is acknowledge that ordinary conversation
creates the self and others - Prof Rom Harri and Prof Ali Moghaddam
edited a 2003 book, THE SELF AND OTHERS about this. Combining this with
"affirmation", if we speak in terms - to ourself and others - of what we
want being something we will have, about to have, or already have then
that affirmation will become reality. However, what these popular self
development cults also mention is that your "affirmation" will lead to
you discovering the vehicle to enable the materialisation of your
"affirmation".

So, it is not a lie. Rather it is conditioning yourself to being open
to the opportunities which you desire and the methods of attaining these
new conditions. The mind is powerful - I think that somewhere in AI it
says stop deficit thinking and only thinkin appreciative terms.

Anna,

One aspect of reality, for me - is how I am feeling in this moment.
(No, this one; no this one)

I didn't realize it but I've been waiting for someone to ask that
question - so - many thanks - really

Mike

PS In a possibly related question - in the phrase "we make meaning
together" - what is "meaning".

It is quite a rabbit hole we have strayed down...but let's go a little
bit further. What is reality?
