Terry,

We have an Ed.D. program at Wichita State University. A core part of our
Ed.D. is action research (our students are immersed in action research in
school districts for two years prior to the dissertation phase). Our
students participate on a field study team (with a doctoral faculty
advisor/partner) each Wednesday. The year-long action research project
benefits the school district, students, and faculty member. The students and
faculty conduct research, present findings to the district, present the data
at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association
(AERA), and publish the study. For the past five years my field studies have
had a strong AI component. I've listed below articles that have been
generated by those studies. Moreover, my doctoral students have been almost
exclusively using AI as a theoretical research perspective or a change
process in their dissertations. I have seen amazing outcomes in schools and
school districts as a result of the field studies and dissertations. Your
students may also be interested my recent book: The Elements of an Effective
Dissertation: A step-by-step guide to getting it right the first time
(Rowman & Littlefield Education, Lanham, Maryland).

Best wishes,

Ray

> I have recently stumbled across AI. Currently I am starting an EdD using
Action Research. I have read that AI is an evolved form of AR that focuses
on the positives within an organisation. I identify with this. I have also
read that AI provides better grounds for theory building than AR.
>
> Can someone enlighten me on the theory-building potential of AI. What
processes or facets of AI assist with theory-building.
