Hi all
I know a lot of the AI community are interested in the area of
sustainability, so this call for papers may be of interest to anyone who is
also a budding writer on the subject and has something to share to the OD
community. It is for a journal published by the Association for Management
Education and Development (AMED) entitled Organisations & People of which I
am a joint editor (incidentally O&P published a special edition on Positive
Approaches to Change a couple of years ago which is available on CD from the
AMED office).
Yours appreciatively

"How do we go about changing organisations, to move from unsustainability to
sustainability?"
A Sustainable Development special edition of Organisations and People
How do we go about changing organisations, to move from unsustainability to
sustainability?
Sustainable development - the process of getting back within environmental
limits as the only way to meet human needs now and in the future - is the
biggest change challenge we have to face as a species.
People who understand the environmental and social issues and their
interactions have much to learn from people who are skilled at making change
at the level of the organisation - and vice versa.
What are the inspiring and empowering examples of change for sustainable
development in organisations? What are the underlying theories and the
specific approaches which are being used with success? What can we all
learn from these activities and enquiries, to inform our work and to make us
all better at building (or bringing about the emergence of) a sustainable
society?
Call for papers
We are seeking proposals for papers of 1,500 - 3,000 words which address
some or all of these aspects:
· new perspectives on organisational change theory and practice,
which have emerged from the field of sustainable development;
· how practice and theory on organisational change is informing the
way that campaigners, policy makers, technical specialists and others who
are working for sustainable development approach their work;
· practical tools and approaches which readers can use straight away
in their work, to help create change, particularly change towards
sustainable development - linked to an underlying theoretical or conceptual
framework ;
· examine those initiatives which are exciting interest, and which
are motivating people to believe change is desirable for individuals and
organisations as well as wider society, that change is possible and is
happening.
Papers should cover lessons from experience, linked to theory, about new or
old approaches to change which are being used to help shift organisations
onto a sustainable development path. Papers are welcome from academic,
research and practitioner perspectives.
About Organisations and People
Organisations and People (O&P) is the journal of AMED, the Association of
Management Education and Development.
http://www.amed.org.uk/publications/index.shtml
<http://www.amed.org.uk/publications/index.shtml>
O&P is a quarterly journal designed to form an effective link between the
world of academic advance and the practitioner whose business results may be
influenced by the success of development initiatives. O&P is relevant for
professionals, managers and consultants working in companies throughout the
private and public sector, voluntary organisations and academic
institutions.
Target readership
AMED members and external subscribers form the core readership of O&P. They
are internal and external consultants, managers with an interest in personal
and professional development, and academics working in the field of
organisational change and management.
For this special edition, readers will also include sustainable development
practitioners, consultants, policy makers, academics and researchers with an
interest in the ways their work can be enhanced by an improved understanding
of organisations and people.
Our expectation is that the environmental, social justice and sustainable
development specialists will learn about approaches to change:
The challenges and constraints that you already know about can be helped by
understanding these tools and theories
The readers who are specialists in management, change and the way people
behave will learn about sustainable development, and see how their existing
skills and knowledge can be stretched and applied to this challenge:
The theories and tools you know and love - and some new ones - can be
applied to this challenge and these constraints
