Instead of our regular monthly NCDD update, this month I'm just sending two
announcements that I know will be of interest to many of you.

1.
First, we announced the Case Foundation's innovative Make It Your Own Awards
last month. It's a new grant program for grassroots leaders who bring
people together to discuss what matters, form solutions, and take action,
and the Case Foundation is very interested in seeing members of the NCDD
community (that's you) apply!

They've scheduled a special conference call for NCDD network members next
Monday, July 23rd at 4:30 pm Eastern (1:30 Pacific). Members of the Case
Foundation team behind the Make It Your Own Awards will be on the call to
talk to you about what they are looking for and answer any questions you
have about the program. If you would like to participate, RSVP to Kristen
Cambell this week at kristenc at casefoundation.org. Kristen will then send you
the necessary information to participate.

We encourage you to apply for this grants program and hope you will take
advantage of this opportunity. To learn more about the Awards, visit
www.casefoundation.org/make-it-your-own/awards. You do not have to be an
official member of NCDD to participate in this call, so feel free to inform
your networks about this opportunity.

2.
Here's another program that's tailor-made for the dialogue and deliberation
community, and another great opportunity.... Fielding Graduate Institute's
much-touted Dialogue, Deliberation and Public Engagement Certificate Program
is offering a 10% discount off of the $2995 tuition (a savings of $300) to
all paid NCDD members.

As many of you hopefully know, NCDD is transitioning from a completely free
membership to a paid membership (only $50/year for individuals or $100/year
for organizations) with a pay-what-you-can/free option so as not to exclude
anyone. In order to encourage people to pay the optional fee, we're
partnering with groups that offer some of the best trainings and courses in
this field to offer discounts to our paid members in exchange for getting
the word out in the field about the trainings. You can see all 18 upcoming
discounted trainings at http://thataway.org/index.php/?page_id=785.

But we especially encourage you to consider participating in this unique
certificate program. The primarily distance-learning program takes place
from August 17 to January 15, 2007, so you need to apply very soon! Here's a
bit more info on the program:

Fielding Graduate Institute, in collaboration with The International
Institute for Sustained Dialogue (IISD) and the Kettering Foundation, has
offered this unique 16-week graduate level Certificate Program since 2004.
The program strives for the development of "virtuosity" in our practice of
dialogue and deliberation. "Virtuosity is what results when people follow
their passions to know something well and to perform skillfully. It combines
at least three things: (a) a 'passion' for what you are doing; (b) an
ability to make [clear] distinctions and (c) the ability to engage in
skilled performance." This course is designed to enhance participants'
abilities to engage in skilled performance.

The faculty are an amazing bunch. Core Faculty include Dr. Hal Saunders, Dr.
Barnett Pearce, Dr. Phil Stewart, Dr. Jan Elliott and Dr. Lyn Carson; and
Dr. Keith Melville and Dr. John Dedrick are collaborating faculty. Learn
more about this great program at www.fielding.edu/hod/ce/dialog/index.html.

Other discounted trainings coming up this month and next are...

July 30 - August 2 in Atlanta; and August 13-16 in Washington DC. 3-day
streamlined courses are being offered on June 25-27 in Atlanta; July 9-11 in
Dallas; and September 10-12 in Sydney, Australia

PCP's The Power of Dialogue (POD): Constructive Conversations on Divisive
Issues

Community at Work's Group Facilitation Skills Training

And another trainings we haven't announced in an Update before that's coming
up in October is Leading Meetings that Matter: An Advanced Facilitation
Workshop with Marvin Weisbord and Sandra Janoff. This training is based on
Marvin and Sandra's great new book "DON'T JUST DO SOMETHING, STAND THERE!
Ten Principles for Leading Meetings that Matter," and paid NCDD members
receive a 30% discount off of the $995 fee.

October 14-16, 2007 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia, PA)

headlines, be sure to go to www.thataway.org to look over what's happening
in the field. Other grant opportunities and trainings were posted recently,
along with upcoming conferences, new books and articles, and other goodies.

Good luck in all that you do!

Best,
Sandy

The "dialogue and deliberation community" is a loose-knit, ever-growing
community of practitioners, researchers, activists, artists, students, and
others who are committed to giving people a voice and making sure that voice
counts. NCDD provides the infrastructure needed in this community so we can
work together to increase both our individual and our collective impact.
