[Ailist] thoughts on working in pairs in small groups

Hi Lynne,

I agree with and wanted to add to what Rob and Mike have said. Even in
small groups, I start with paired interviews because they help people come
into the present moment. I always enjoy feeling the energy shift about 5
minutes into the first interview.

In my opinion, you are ON the mark regarding the intimacy and trust that is
generated. When groups process the very same questions, there tends to be a
bit more posturing than when the stories are shared one-on-one.

Warm wishes from sweltering Phoenix,

Christine

Hi Lynne
The real value of the interviewing is not in the data but in the impact of
stories on the hearts and subsequent behaviors of the hearers.
I would encourage interviewing in pairs, because it leads to having the
"hearer"
introducing the person to the larger group. In my experience this creates
another level of understanding. During the introductions people will
instinctively reference other stories in their presentations which helps
people weave a common story and the discovery of common values.
