This summer I am returning—for my third time--to China with Global Language
Villages, which offers service volunteers an unparalleled opportunity to
experience China through interactions with Chinese students. This unique
opportunity gives me a totally different perspective and an incredibly rewarding
experience. Thus, I am inviting you to come as well as asking the Quentin's
Friends community's help in letting others know about this great opportunity.
Many of you know that I am a great fan of Concordia Language Villages (CLV)
in northern Minnesota. In 1997, CLV began operating Global Language Villages
(GLV) in China. Today, at 16 sites, Chinese children (8-18) get immersed in
the English language and culture for 14 days. Volunteers have an unforgettable
cultural experience and develop lifelong friendships.
The 3 week program begins with a 1 week tour. After the tour, I will be one
of 16 leaders taking 12 to 15 participants to teach for 14 days at a school
site selected to host GLV. Participants are paired with a teacher from the
host school to assist with translation and activities.
A typical day consists of language and culture classes, activity periods and
an evening program. Students with varying English proficiencies are thrilled
to have the chance to practice their English with native speakers. No
Chinese or teaching experience is required!
This program, which goes from approximately July 9-31, is the least
expensive service oriented adventure available. It costs $2795 which includes almost
everything: airfare from most major cities, all accommodations, local
transportation, tours, and most meals and approximately $2400 is tax deductible. GLV
welcomes 14-18 year olds as assistants. Their cost is $1800 with
approximately $400 tax deductible. For the past two years I have been fortunate to have
business school classmates’ daughters come with me.
I hope that you can join me but if not please do me a big favor and pass
this on to anyone who would enjoy this incredible opportunity. (Great for
teachers, retired people, and anyone else who can get away for 3 weeks.) For more
information visit the website (www.globallanguageI hope thI hope that you

Thanks.
Janet
