Dear Colleagues:

Since the publication of the First Edition (in 2003) much has happened in
the practice of AI and creation of new and connecting theories as was
noticed through an additional 125 resources and over 40
studies/dissertations that are now included in the new Second Edition -
Appreciative Inquiry Handbook. We have been working on the second edition
for the past year now and want to share with you some highlights of what is
new based on feedback from many readers:

- Updates on existing organizations' uses that demonstrate
sustainability of AI

- Expanded resource section with new worksheets and updated
Bibliography with new websites and dissertations on AI

- New Foreword by Ron Fry providing a collective overview of the
past decade of contributions by AI scholars and practitioners as he coins it
the "healthy state of the discipline"

- Mini-lecture: "Why AI Works" in Chapter 1

- Nine new AI case studies in Chapter 9 from your colleagues around
the globe in different sectors

- Detailed employee development and healthcare project plan, agenda
and interview guide in Chapter 3

- An expanded list of questions (from 12 to 70) to consider when
Getting Started to Creating the Appreciative Organization in the beginning
of Chapter 3

- Updated and expanded case applications with reports of measurable
results of AI in Chapters 4-7

- Two new powerful ways in which the design phase can unfold to
allow for creativity, speed, and innovation to market in Chapter 6

- In order to extend the leadership knowledge domain and AI, there
is a new Interview Guide on "The Art of Leading" in Chapter 8

- A new classic article: "Strategic Inquiry with Appreciative
Intent: Inspiration to SOAR!" a seminal article on AI and strategic planning
in Chapter 11

Throughout the new handbook, we have referred to the larger meaning of the
"sustainable enterprise", in terms of the "Triple Bottom Line". For
example, there is an application in Chapter 6 from Fairmont Minerals that
demonstrates how AI can be integrated with principles of sustainable
development to create new products and business processes. To exemplify
sustainability in the AI process (in the sense of longevity of the
initiative), we also offer the Fairmount Minerals Sustainable Development AI
Summit Participants Workbook in Chapter 8.
