Hi MarySue - I have been travelling and missed your request for info on
Imagine Projects, fortunately Tom forwarded your request to me. I am happy
to share with you a little about an Imagine project that ran from 2004 to
2007 at the Toronto District School Board.
My colleagues Sue Anderson and Jane Magruder Watkins worked with me on an
Imagine project - Imagine Student Success. This was focused at student
who were 'at risk' - we wanted to get the student voice into the education
strategy. There were 125 schools involved, six Grade 7,8 & 9 students and
one teacher per school. Prior to the summit we had over 2400 interviews
completed by the students (about 70% were with students and the balance
were with adults - parents, administrator, police, business people et). At
the summit we had close to 1000 participants (800 students).
We wrote and article for the AI Practitioner and I have attached a copy of
it. We also had a short video made for the summit (in 3 parts - we showed
the first segment at the opening of the summit, then when the minister of
education for the province was present we showed the 3 min portion - part 2
and closed the summit with the 3rd clip). The video was about students
expressing what success means to them and we are delighted to say that a
grade 10 student participated in the filming and editing of the project.
The media company valued his contribution so much that he was hired (over
2nd and 3rd year film students) as their summer intern and he is now at 18
in his 3rd summer intern with the company. Alex was a student at risk and
he has been accepted into Ryerson University media course starting this
fall. We have so many wonderful stories about youth who had been at risk
who are now doing so well ...
To access the video you can go to the AI Commons
http://appreciativeinquiry.case.edu/practice/bibAiStoriesDetail.cfm?coid=8324.
The project lasted 3 years and the initiatives are now part of the board on
going strategy.
If you would like more information - just let me know.
best wishes

Don't know if you get this so I thought I would forward it. Mary Sue is
looking for Imagine programs. I think you mentioned you were involved
in one in Toronto??
Thanks for the picture collection and the background support work you
have provided for Colloquy attendees.

Friends -- we are seeking other Imagine programs, Imagine Houston,
Imagine Denver, etc. to include in our Imagine-Nation Conference next
month. If not in person, then as literature. Google searches turn up
expired websites, etc. Can you refer me to any that you know of?
Some programs that consider themselves part of the Imagine Movement may
not have Imagine in their names but you would recognize them --
intergenerational, grass roots. There is usually some component of --
interview leaders in the community to discover what might be possible
and then go to work.
Bliss Browne referred me to Imagine Calgary where 18,000 citizens
contributed. Pretty darn big "grass roots" effort, wouldn't you say?
If you know of some, will you forward to me? I'll post a list in a
couple of weeks.
