Hello again Neil

Judith's comment below relects the spirit of my research question when I
undertook my PhD. After initial PhD studies I ended up harnessing
positioning theory to understand how CEOs deal with entrenched
positioning (I called it residue**). After interviewing CEOs known fo
dealing with change* well I then applied a positioning theory framework
to understand what they were doing to achieve the change. I showed how
CEOs position themselves and others to enable everyone to speak up and
embrace the change.

See:
1. my PhD at: http://intergon.net/phd
2. my subsequent book at: http://intergon.net/tsw (a short novel based
on my PhD findings - this book is used for executive development in some
corporations and university courses)
3. a single page summary of the thesis and book:

notes:
* my PhD research was concerned with change relating to sustainabilty,
but I demonstrated that sustainability is one of many "obligatory and
externally imposed" issues that require organisations to change what
people in the organisation may not want to bother changing.
** in explaining entrenched positioning I harnessed electromagnetic
theory - specifically electromagnetic flux. When change in
electromagnetic forces occur there can remain damanging or retarding
residual electromagnetic flux. I suggested a social flux that produces
a similar residue. But this is all too heavy for most people. Instead,
in the real world I say "the residual underlying mood of an organisation
needs to be aligned with what needs to be done by the CEO for change to
happen effectively".

Dear Neil:

...

In failed projects, there is excessive "advocating" and entrenched
positioning. People become afraid to speak up and the alpha dominant
voices win.
Compliance is the outcome and innovation is often at a low.
