Hi, everyone!
There's a lot to tell you about this month. We've negotiated some amazing
discounts on some of the best trainings in this field for NCDD members, for
one thing. We'd also like to tell you about two great events we're
co-sponsoring that are happening this summer - one in New York City and one
in Bali.
We want to let you in on a great offer for 2 free DVDs on the Public Peace
Process as well. And as we do every month, we share our blog headlines to
encourage you to visit thataway.org more frequently in order to stay on top
of what's happening in this rapidly-growing field.
Here are the details...
1. Discounts on Great Trainings for Paid NCDD Members
NCDD is in the process of switching from a free to a paid membership (with a
free/pay-what-you-can option) in order to become a more sustainable
organization. One of the incentives we're providing for paid members are
discounts to a whole bunch of great training programs.
A number of organizations that run top-notch trainings - the Public
Conversations Project, Dialogos, the Center for Wise Democracy, the Center
for Strategic Facilitation, and others - have already agreed to support NCDD
and its members by providing significant discounts for their trainings. And
others - Global Facilitator Service Corps, the Harwood Institute, Institute
for the Study of Conflict Transformation, Leadership Strategies, etc. - have
shown interest and are working out the details with NCDD.
Look over all of the discounts at
http://thataway.org/index.php/?page_id=785, or learn how to join as one of
our first paid members at http://thataway.org/index.php/?p=661.
Here is a quick listing of the discounted trainings happening within the
next couple of months:

(April 12-13, 2007 in Oakland, CA; June 5-6, 2007 in South Bay, CA)

and September 30-October 5 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York)
- PCP's The Art of Interviewing: Transforming Stories about Conflict

2. "Why Dialogue?" Conference in New York City
The New York City-based Network for Peace through Dialogue (NPD) is will
hold a conference called "Why Dialogue: and when and how and where?" on June
15th and 16th, 2007, and NCDD is pleased to co-sponsor this event. This
affordable conference, held in collaboration with Marymount Manhattan
College, will feature interactive sessions led by groups including Public
Conversations Project, the Dialogue Project, the Compassionate Listening
Project, and NCDD.
Local and national groups will gather to share ways they are using dialogue
in various situations and to provide newcomers and experienced practitioners
opportunities to learn skills and build networks.
For a complete schedule and to register, go to
www.networkforpeace.com/conference.htm. Registration is only $175 before
June, and only $50 for students! For additional info, call 212-426-5818.
Since 1985 NPD has developed programs related to critical social issues in
its living room dialogues and international conferences.
3. Awakening Global Action: Leadership, Indigenous Wisdom & Dialogue for a
Transforming World
NCDD is a Partner of Awakening Global Action, an intergenerational,
multicultural gathering in Ubud, Bali July 31 through August 7, 2007. The
conference, run by the Bali Institute for Global Renewal, will feature world
renowned speakers, facilitators and indigenous wisdom leaders from Africa,
Indonesia, North America, Australia, Thailand, Afghanistan, New Zealand,
Peru and more.
Individuals of all ages (18-80+) are invited to participate in an
extraordinary gathering designed to offer cutting-edge leadership training,
deep listening, shared experiences and collaborative cross-cultural learning
that promises to shape your future as a committed global citizen.
This gathering is carefully designed for those wanting to engage with a
collective of multigenerational, multicultural individuals who share a
common bond of wanting to help shift the direction of our global future.
More than 1,000 people have attended the previous QUEST FOR GLOBAL HEALING
Conferences from over 40 countries. Hundreds of people are now more actively
engaged as change agents because of their experiences at these events.

4. Free Offer: 2 Great DVDs on the Public Peace Process
My good friends and NCDD members Len and Libby Traubman, founders of the
long-running Jewish-Palestinian Living Room Dialogue Group of San Mateo,
California, wanted to share a special offer with all the dialogue and
deliberation community.
They have created two great DVDs, and they are generously making those films
available free of charge to whoever will use them. According to Len and
Libby, these are two films that actually show what life looks like when
Dialogue is practiced where people study and live together.
The first film, "Dialogue at Washington High," shows a Jew and a Palestinian
modeling how to connect with the "other" beginning with personal Story.
Tenth grade high school students then engage each other in dyads with a new
quality of listening, and the diverse youth speak about their new way of
communicating. This is a 43-minute DVD, and you can order it (for free) at
http://traubman.igc.org/vidschool.htm.
The second film, "PEACEMAKERS: Palestinians & Jews Together at Camp" shows
how a Palestinian-Jewish Dialogue and an 85-year-old camp bought together in
the California mountains 140 Muslims, Jews and Christians of all ages,
including some from Israel and Palestine. They discover one another and
their ability to communicate and cooperate in new ways. Back down the
mountain, they hold a public event in San Francisco to tell the community
about their struggles and breakthroughs. This 83-minute film can be ordered
(for free) at http://traubman.igc.org/vidcamp.htm.
You can check out some viewer responses to the Jewish-Palestinian Living
Room dialogue Group's 2007 films on the public peace process at
http://traubman.igc.org/vidresponse.htm.

NCDD brings together and supports people, organizations, and resources in
ways that expand the power of discussion to benefit society. Dialogue and
deliberation help people bridge gaps, make better decisions, take collective
action, and become more active citizens. Dialogues are powerful personal
experiences that often lead to careful deliberation and collaborative action
or policy recommendations.
