Hi my friends,

Jack, it seems that you were reading my mind when you invited the new
members to participate. I had been thinking about contacting all of you, I
guess I only needed your message to jump into it so…here I am. My name is
Elvira Rodrigo. I’m from Spain but I’m currently living in Chicago (any
AIers in the area?). There are a couple of reasons why I wanted to contact
you:
First…thank you all because of the quality dialogue you have all been
sharing through the list serve. It’s a pleasure to be part of it.
Secondly…I have a project in mind that I want to share with you and seek
for your feedback and input. I had the opportunity to meet David Cooperrider
last June and he suggested the idea of compiling questions used by
practitioners during the discovery phase of AI.
Since then I’ve been thinking about it and…what’s your opinion about doing
an on line encyclopedia of appreciative questions?
I would compile in the database those questions that we as practitioners
want to share with the rest of the community, those either having been used
in the past or used currently as part of the discovery phase.
How will we all benefit from this “encyclopedia”? Any practitioner from any
part of the world could access the database and retrieve questions that they
could use as a base for their interventions. The data could be searched by
words, project, practitioner, topic, grade of efficacy (probably rated by
the practitioner who submitted the question)…and maybe in the future by
language as well.
I’m currently a MSOD student at Pepperdine and I’m doing my thesis about
“The discovery phase of AI: How to create and sustain the “magic” during the
interview”.
Part of my analysis would be the language used during the interview and if
you agree, I could use some of the questions submitted to the encyclopedia
to do a content analysis.
Now I need your feedback:

1.	What do you think about having an on line encyclopedia of positive
questions? What do you think about sharing questions that will be entered on
line? Do you find it to be a valuable resource for the field?
2.	As possible future users of the encyclopedia, what kind of search would
you like to be able to use to retrieve the data? Suggestions are: topic,
word, practitioner, project, and efficacy. What do you think?
3.	Any suggestions, research articles or books I could use for my thesis? My
intention is to develop a model or approach to apply during the discovery
phase. I would greatly appreciate it!
4.	Any thoughts, questions, comments?

This project only makes sense if it’s useful and is designed to meet the
practitioner’s needs, your needs. So based on your feedback I may or may not
move forward with the design of the database. If you think the encyclopedia
would be a helpful resource then I will follow up on ways to collect data
from you so I can start entering it on line.

Thanks so much (especially for reading such a long message!;-) and I look
forward to hearing from you!

	Sincerely,

	Elvira Rodrigo
